Team Kelly Benefits – The Irish Ice “Bears” the Cold to Support Special Olympics Maryland
ANNAPOLIS, MD – On Friday, February 2, Team Kelly Benefits – The Irish Ice once again braved the chilly waters of the Chesapeake Bay in support of Special Olympics Maryland at the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge.
Since 1996, the annual Plunge has supported thousands of Maryland Special Olympics athletes who train and compete in unified and individual team sports year-round. Through the MSP Polar Bear Plunge and other initiatives throughout the year, Special Olympics can provide continuing opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
Team Kelly Benefits raised more than $5,000 for the event, contributing to the more than $1 million raised by the thousands of brave plungers who registered to take the plunge at Sandy Point State Park. The “Irish Ice” also brought home the “Best Costume” award for this year’s 2024 Corporate Plunge. With costumes ranging from leprechauns riding dinosaurs to kilts and even pots of gold, the team got into the spirit of the day while supporting the more than 15,558 athletes and teammates who train and compete year-round, free of charge.
Funds raised through the event will support the various free sports and leadership programs Special Olympics offers throughout the state while helping create a world of opportunity for these very special athletes.
